Captain Magenta shot from the chute that he had ridden from the secret passage above and into the waiting arms of his field partner.
"Woah there!" Ochre whispered good-naturedly. "You almost hit your head on that stone," he nodded to the large block that was protruding from the wall dangerously close to the end of the chute. "Looks like someone already has!"
Magenta stood shakily, feeling somewhat giddy after the disorientating trip to the basement. "Where's Captain Scarlet?"
"Follow me," his colleague advised. "But keep quiet and alert - there could be hidden passages just about anywhere!"

Captain Magenta jumped as Ochre pushed him back into the shadows. They had just hidden themselves when a man stepped out of a concealed passage not far ahead of them and headed in the direction that they had been heading in.
"That's the direction of the cells," Ochre hissed. "We'd better follow quietly."
The two men crept forward nervously, being careful not to make a sound. Both silently hoped that their colleague was alright.
The man in front of the spectrum officers stopped short of the cells as Captain Black strode into view. Captains Ochre and Magenta quickly ducked back and listened quietly to the exchange as it took place.
"Has he said anything, sir?"
Black seemed to sneer in the dimness. "Scarlet is a stubborn idiot, but we will break his will. Thirst, hunger and exhaustion will get through to anyone eventually."
"There are some who try to be heroes, that won't allow themselves to be broken, sir. What if he won't give in?"
Black smiled nastily. "Then he will perish alone in his cell," he replied. "Even he can't last forever without food or water. All bodies need fuel."
"What about the men up there searching for him?"
"Forget them," the Mysteron told him. "One of them has already began to search the grounds. As time moves on, they will think that he is outside."
"You know best, Captain."
As Captain Black and his subordinate headed off in the opposite direction to them, Captains Ochre and Magenta slipped inside Captain Scarlet's cell.
"That was weird," Magenta remarked as he handed Ochre the nail he had ripped from the floor boards above them. "The guy that was talking to Captain Black didn't sound much like a Mysteron."
"What...?" Scarlet raised his head tiredly. His head felt much worse now that he had less to distract him.
Captain Magenta moved to his side to inspect his wound while his colleague set to work on the shackles.
"There was a guy talking to Black," he explained. "He sounded more like an employee than a Mysteron agent."
"Strange," Captain Scarlet slurred.
"Ugh!" Ochre gasped suddenly, interrupting.
Magenta frowned at him. "What's wrong?"
Instead of answering him, he frowned at Captain Scarlet. "Why didn't you tell me you had to go to the bathroom?" he demanded. "I would've helped!"
"I thought I could wait," he replied with difficulty.
Magenta chuckled quietly. "We'll have to see about getting you nappies!"
Scarlet frowned and closed his eyes but didn't attempt to reply.

Ochre shot Magenta an annoyed glance. "He's probably got hypothermia," he pointed out. "That can make you want to... go pretty bad."
"I guess you're right," he agreed, before apologising to his English colleague.
Scarlet nodded slightly but didn't reply.
"Are you feeling OK?" Captain Ochre asked him with concern.
"Yes, great!" he replied sarcastically.
Magenta patted his arm. "Just hang in there; we'll have you out of here real soon."
He tried to smile, but he wasn't sure whether he managed it or not. He was far too groggy.

"I think one of you should keep an eye in the door," Captain Scarlet rasped.
"Black won't be back yet," Magenta told him with a smile. "He only just left here."
Ochre frowned at him. "Don't be to confident. Go on, keep an eye on the corridor."
"S.I.G.," Magenta mumbled as he went to the cell door.
"Can you feel him coming?" Ochre asked their friend quietly.
Scarlet tried to shake his head. "I couldn't tell you."

Even in the dimness, Ochre could see that his colleague's head wound looked quite nasty. "Can you tell me how you feel?" he asked him, trying hard not to sound too concerned in case it in turn worried his British colleague.
"Cold... Very cold..." he sniffed slightly and shivered.
He nodded. "Yeah, I can see that. I meant... well, are you in pain? Do you feel sick to your stomach, or dizzy?"
"A bit..."
"A bit what? Help me out here, would you?" Ochre freed Scarlet's right arm and saw him immediately raise it to his head without even thinking to rub at his sore wrist. "Your head hurts pretty bad, doesn't it?"
"Yes. Hard to think... hard to talk..."
He nodded and started on his left wrist. "Take it easy then. We'll soon have you out of here."

"Are you done yet?" Magenta hissed.
Ochre freed Scarlet and put a supportive arm around him. "Just about, yeah. Is the corridor clear?"
"Yes, but I think we'd better get a move on. I don't think Captain Scarlet's fit enough to help us in a fight, right now..."
"I will... if I have to."
Magenta nodded. "We know that; it'll just be better if you don't have to. Which way, Captain Ochre?"

Ochre bit at his lip as his mind raced. He'd already tried to find a way back up in the vicinity of the chute from which he'd emerged and found nothing. "I hate to say it," he said at last, "but I think we'll have to turn right when we leave here..."
Magenta gaped at him. "You mean follow Black?"
"I know; I don't like it either. We'll just have to be careful, won't we?" he stepped out into the corridor cautiously, feeling glad that his uniform didn't stand out as much as it could have done with the limestone walls as his backdrop, and gestured to his brightly-coloured colleagues to follow.
